F.A.Q

What does your name mean?
'The coolness of the eye,' a metaphor derived from Arabic. You can read more about it here.

What is your ethnicity?
I am of Pakistani descent but was born and raised in England. If you are interested in reading further about my background, you can read my blog post titled ‘Between Patriarchy and Silent Shrouds.’

What is your religion?
I identify as Muslim.

What are your favourite books?
You can view my Goodreads profile which I keep updated: https://www.goodreads.com/qurratulain0. I also have a ‘bookshelf’ tab on this website showcasing all of my favourite books.

Do you dye your hair yourself?
I do. As a child, I enjoyed painting and experimenting with colour but lacked the artistic ability to create anything that was passable as art. This love of colour was something that I continued to project into my daily life, whether through wearing vibrant clothing or painting my bedroom in effervescent shades. As soon as I turned 18, my mother allowed me to dye my hair and I remember feeling exhilarated as I admired the glory of my new crimson mane under the sun. It quickly became a creative outlet and is something that has always brought me great joy. I have never had it coloured professionally because I feel like it would almost detract the bliss. You can read 'My Hair History' post here.

Why did you remove your hijab?
I wrote an entire post about it for Sister-hood which you can read here.
